History and curiosities

People have known silver from the ancient times. In the Egyptian pyramids, archeologists discovered countless treasures including silver objects. In that times they were named ’white gold’ because of their beauty and quality. They were quite rare, found mostly in temples or royal palaces.

Before the revolution in Petersburg and other bigger Russian cities, many families had family silverware. The name ‘family silver’ suggested that the items were made to order or they were bought in a set, which was less expensive. Silver or golden tableware indicated wealth and power, and welcoming guests this way was a sign of the highest respect. Silverware was always considered valuable. Delightful goblets, trays, and table sets were valued gifts and the attribute of festive table decoration. After some time they became exhibits of museum collections.

Table sets were and will be the symbol of wealth and respect, family tradition keeper and a decoration worth even the most festive parties.

Nowadays we may notice that the tradition of decorating the festive tables with silverware is returning. Silver cutlery, plates and objects of interior decoration not only adorn the house, but also indicate one’s good  taste and stable financial condition. The purchase of silver products was always a good investment and a perfect heritage for next generations.

Miraculous healing properties of silver and silver water have been known from the immemorial times.

Ancient Greeks and Romans used to keep liquids in silver dishes knowing that it will improve its qualities. In ancient Egypt people used to apply silver plates to wounds. In Russia it was very popular to serve tea with a ruble. The silver ruble was put on the bottom of the glass, purifying the water with silver ions. According to an old custom, people used to offer silver spoons to newborn children in order to protect them from illnesses.

‘Silver water’, being a strong antibiotic strengthens the organism’s immunity and ensures prevention or quick recovery in numerous diseases.

Until today, the use of silver dishes and cutlery is a sign not only of prestige but also of hygiene. On all Shuttle spaceships water is being purified through silver treatment; silver filters are also being used on aircrafts. It is also used more and more frequently for purifying pool water, as it doesn’t irritate mucous membranes and has antibacterial properties; it also kills pathogenic bacteria and viruses. In Japan air is being cleared with it and silver filters are widely used in Switzerland.

According to a Nobel Prize winner, dr. Robert Sayner, everyday silver use has an enormous influence on the human immune system.
